
Jean-Noël Briend – Tenor | Vocal Coach | Educator
Jean-Noël Briend has collaborated with some of the most distinguished figures in the opera world, sharing the stage with artists such as June Anderson, José van Dam, Béatrice Uria-Monzon, George Gagnidze, Catherine Foster, François Le Roux, and Jean-Philippe Lafont. His work has also brought him under the direction of renowned stage directors including Christophe Marthaler, Romeo Castellucci, John Fulljames, Anthony Pilavachi, and Charles Roubaud.
With a career spanning over two decades, he has performed leading roles in some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including Teatro Real Madrid (Hoffmann, 2014), La Monnaie Brussels, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Opéra de Lyon, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Opéra National de Bordeaux, and the Warsaw National Opera, among many others. His profound stage experience and mastery of operatic repertoire have naturally led him to dedicate himself to teaching and mentoring the next generation of singers.
A respected vocal pedagogue, Jean-Noël Briend was appointed professor of singing at the École Normale de Musique de Paris in October 2024. Prior to this, he taught as Professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden (2022–2024) and at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Strasbourg and its Pôle Supérieur (2017–2022). Passionate about nurturing young talent, he founded and continues to direct the Internationale SommerAkademie am Rhein, a prestigious summer opera program in Germany near Strasbourg, established in 2016.
His expertise is regularly sought by institutions such as the Musicalta Summer Academy in Alsace, where he has been a regular faculty member, and he has been invited to lead masterclasses at institutions including Musikhochschule Mannheim (2021) and CRR Paris (2015). He also frequently serves as a jury member for various international vocal competitions and conservatory examinations.
